Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) is an Alexandria-based non-profit that has helped the older adult community since 1968. It serves the needs of older adults by providing nutrition, companionship, transportation as well as educational sessions on a variety of topics of importance to seniors. Its Senior Nutrition program includes Meals on Wheels and the Groceries-to-Go Program. SSA and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria offer a pet food delivery program, Animeals, that provides free pet food to low-income seniors. The Friendly Visitor Program matches socially isolated older adults with volunteers for weekly visits. SSA handles reservations for discounted transportation via the DOT Paratransit service.The education program includes a monthly speaker series, Senior Ambassador Program and Senior Information Corners in the City’s libraries and recreation centers.
